Drinks to stay cool this summer

It’s the first days of summer and we’re ready to get outside and explore the beauty of the outdoors!

With that in mind, we have a couple recipe ideas to help you stay cool and hydrated, when you’re back from your summer adventures. Check out some drink recipes to keep you cool this summer, below.
Salty lassi
You often see the mango lassi at your local Indian restaurants, but what about the salted version?
This lassi recipe inspired by the Ayurvedic Cooking for Self Healing’s recipe, not only will aid with cooling you down with the use of chilled yoghurt but using a dairy-based yoghurt at the end of a meal, can also assist with digestion.
Cool on the outside and calm on the inside!
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup yoghurt (dairy or dairy-free)
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom
- Salt to taste
Method
Place all ingredients into a blender, until all ingredients have been well combined. If you prefer your lassi a bit thicker, try adding more yoghurt and reducing the water. Then vice versa, if you prefer it a bit thinner.
Pour and serve in 1 tall glass and drink straight away.
Additional ingredients such as chilli powder, cumin powder, ground pepper, turmeric or even ginger (freshly grated or dry) can be added. However, these can change the effect of the drink. Though if you don’t mind a bit of heat or spice, you can give them a try!
Mango lassi
The sweeter version and equally refreshing, Mango lassi, is a favourite for a reason. Check out our recipe below to keep you pepped up with the sweetness of mango and cooled with the yoghurt base of this crowd pleaser.
Ingredients
- 1 cup peeled and roughly chopped mango (about 1-2 medium mangoes)
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom
- 2 tablespoons honey, raw sugar or sweetener of choice
- 1 cup chilled yoghurt (dairy or non-dairy)
- 1/2 cup water or ice cubes
Method
Place mango and cardamom in a blender, then blend together well, until the mango consistency is a thick but free of any chunks of mango.
Add the chilled yoghurt, water or ice cubes to the blender, then blend until smooth. You can add extra water or sweetener here to adapt to your own taste.
Note, you can omit the sweetener if you’d prefer it sugar-free and have naturally sweet mangoes on hand.
Pour into 2 tall glasses and enjoy!
