This focus on individualised practice in our courses is what really sets our graduates apart. This approach also gives graduates of our 500hr Diploma level Yoga Teacher Training course credit towards graduate Yoga Therapy Training.

What Our Graduates Say…

”I LOVED this course! One of the best years of my life. I feel I have so much to learn still as I go through my yoga teaching journey, but I feel so stable and confident with the knowledge I have gained through The Yoga Institute this year. I am looking forward to sharing this in New Zealand and keeping you updated. Thank you so much!”

”The Yoga Institute is making a wonderfully positive impact on the yoga world here in Sydney and actually nationwide. I really can’t praise the school highly enough and don’t have the superlatives in my vocabulary to do it justice. I just wanted to acknowledge that and hopefully the others are too. They’re definitely feeling it..”

“This course was an invaluable experience. I feel thoroughly confident to go out and teach with the knowledge I have learned from T.Y.I. It has opened a doorway of new experiences and skills.”

“The mentoring program is fantastic, I always felt supported throughout the course. The reason why I chose this course was because of the high standards that were evident in the course structure which has been translated throughout my experience this year and I believe that’s why I feel so confident as a yoga teacher. Thank you to all The Yoga Institute faculty.”

Yoga for Back Care

Yoga for Back Care

An engaging 6-week course that will be both theoretical and practical

This course is suitable for students who have challenging back issues/pain (including neck complaints) and or for students who are interested to learn more about maintaining spinal health and preventing spinal issues.

During this 6-week course Lisa and Maria will guide students through a yoga program customised to address common back problems and will provide each student with the opportunity to learn and practice yoga postures that will promote spinal awareness, support spinal alignment, strengthen spinal muscles, build core strength for spinal stabilisation and promote healthy movement of your spine. Students will also develop self awareness so they can practice yoga in a way that aids rather than aggitates their back, neck and spine.

Bookings are essential and prepayment is required. The next course start date is currently to be confirmed. Join our newsletter to be notified when dates for the next course are confirmed.

The health of our back significantly impacts our wellbeing; if you are one of the millions complaining about “my aching back” you’ll know this all to well.

Why is the back prone to injury?

As we age, ligaments and tendons shorten and joint range of motion decreases. Disks lose their ability to absorb shock, muscles weaken, and bones lose mass. This is compounded spending too much time sitting in cars, at desks, at computers. Bad posture makes matters worse.

How can yoga help reduce back pain?

Yoga helps to build a strong yet supple spine as well as correcting postural misalignments. The subtle breath work and relaxation practices of yoga can also provide pain sufferers with a powerful tool to manage their pain. Some of the back conditions that may be eased by regular and appropriate yoga include: scoliosis, sciatica, lower back pain, degenerated or bulging discs, as well as neck pain and stiffness.

Day: Wednesday
Duration: 6 week course
Time: 6:30pm–7:45pm
Cost: $135 (inc gst) payable in advance
Teacher: Lisa Grauaug

Upcoming Dates: Our next Back Care short course hasn’t yet been scheduled. Join our newsletter to be notified when dates for the next course are confirmed.

BACK CARE YOGA TIP: If you are doing a yoga class or doing your own personal practice, here’s a key principle to keep in mind…

Breathe as You Do the Yoga Poses. When we hold our breath, we hold onto tension. Quiet, slow breathing induces the relaxation response, allowing increased circulation to tissues whose vessels are constricted during times of stress. If you can stay in touch with your breath as you practice yoga you will also stay within a safe range of motion for your body and will be less likely to over-strain your muscles and ligaments.
