What is Restorative Yoga?
The aim of restorative Yoga is to move the nervous system from sympathetic (fight or flight) to parasympathetic (rest and digest). It’s about opening/closing parts of the body to create an energetic shift, and not about “stretching”. The focus is on bringing healing to the body and mind rather than “obtaining a posture”.
Date: Saturday 12th – Sunday 13th August 2017
Location: The Yoga Institute, level 1/498 Miller Street, Cammeray, NSW
A restorative yoga sequence typically involves only five or six poses, supported by props that allow you to completely relax and rest. Held for 5 minutes or more, restorative poses include light twists, seated forward folds, mild inversions, gentle backbends, and concludes with a long, fully supported final relaxation pose (savasana).
Benefits and what you will learn:
- How to create the relaxation response
- The physiological effects of deep relaxation
- How to set up a variety of poses
- How to use a variety of props including blankets, bolsters, blocks, eye covers, and straps
- How certain poses can be used therapeutically
- How to sequence a class
